Samantha Strauss is an Australian screenwriter who has recently created the much-anticipated new teen drama series, Dance Academy for the ABC in Australia and ZDF in Germany, produced by Joanna Werner of Werner Film Productions.
Samantha is currently writing a feature film for Runway Pictures, with Rachel Griffiths attached to direct and Louise Smith producing. She has previously been nominated for an Australian Writer’s Guild Monte Miller Award for her pilot script Learning to Fly, and written for children’s drama series H20 – Just Add Water.
With an extensive background in casting on projects such as children’s drama series The Elephant Princess, H20 – Just Add Water and the Sleepover Club, as well as feature films such as Jindabyne and The Great Raid, Samantha now brings this insight of the audition room to her writing, creating characters that actors love to play.
Samantha has a degree in Film & Television from Bond University and has been awarded an Australian Writer’s Guild internship working in the adult drama department of Southern Star. She has received funding from Screen Australia, Film Victoria and the Australian Film Commission.
